METRO BOOMIN AND FUTURE SET MARCH ON FIRE WITH "WE DON'T TRUST YOU" COLLAB ALBUM

You're gonna flip when you hear: Future and Metro Boomin just bodied the charts harder than a Call of Duty noob on Nuketown. Their new collab album We Don't Trust You dominated the Billboard 200, snatching the biggest sales week of 2024 so far. Riding high on 251,000 units moved, it blasted to number one and marked Future's ninth chart-topping project and Metro's fourth. But it's the scorching single "Like That" that's got everyone screaming. Kendrick Lamar laced the track with nuclear bars aimed at Drake and J. Cole that spawned a beef hotter than ghost peppers. We're talking next-level savagery. This hip-hop soap opera is poppin' off.

Future and Metro Boomin's New Album Hits #1

If you’ve been listening to hip hop radio lately, you’ve no doubt heard Future and Metro Boomin’s latest banger “Like That” blasting through the airwaves. The track comes from their joint album We Don’t Trust You, which has shot straight to number one on the Billboard 200, marking the biggest first-week sales of 2024 so far.

Streaming Power

With 17 tracks clocking up over 324 million streams in its first week, it’s no wonder We Don’t Trust You debuted at number one. The album racked up 251,000 equivalent album units, nearly all from streaming, showing just how powerful streaming has become. This gives Future his ninth number one album and Metro Boomin his fourth.

Controversial Collab

But “Like That” is causing controversy. The track features a guest verse from Kendrick Lamar, who takes shots at fellow rappers Drake and J. Cole. Referencing their hit “First Person Shooter,” Kendrick raps “I hope they came with three switches.” He continues, declaring “Muthaf the big three, na, it’s just big me.”

Drake has hinted at responses to Kendrick, telling crowds at his shows “There’s not a na on this Earth that could ever f with me in my life!” He also seemed to call out Future and Metro Boomin on Instagram, writing “I could never sell ya’ll out to sell my latest work...Never do you bad out the blue but I’m down to make it worse.”

What’s Next?

With a number one album and single, Future and Metro Boomin are riding high. But will Drake respond to Kendrick’s shots? And how will Future and Metro’s success impact the hip hop scene and collaborations to come? One thing’s for sure, We Don’t Trust You is shaping up to be one of the most talked about hip hop releases of 2024.

"Like That" Breaks Records and Takes Aim at Drake

The buzz around “Like That” was deafening even before the album dropped. Now that it's here, the track is shattering records and stirring up controversy. Within a week, “Like That” racked up over 500,000 streams, making it the fastest song to hit that milestone this year. The cut is expected to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, proving that when Future and Metro Boomin join forces, they're an unstoppable hitmaking machine.

Of course, the real talk of the town is Kendrick Lamar’s blistering verse aimed squarely at Drake and J. Cole. References to their chart-topper “First Person Shooter” and Drake’s album For All The Dogs show that K-Dot isn’t pulling any punches. Lines like "f the big three, na, it's just big me" and "your best work is a light pack" are clear shots fired at hip hop's biggest stars. Kendrick is staking his claim as the undisputed king of the rap game.

Drake, for his part, seems unfazed. At a recent show, the 6 God declared "there’s not a na on this Earth that could ever f with me in my life!" He also appeared to call out Future and Metro Boomin on Instagram, saying "I could never sell ya’ll out to sell my latest work." While that may be true, Drake would be wise not to provoke Kendrick into releasing another blistering diss track.

With a record-breaking single that's got the whole hip hop world talking, Future and Metro Boomin have proven they're a force to be reckoned with. And if there's more heat like “Like That” on We Don’t Trust You, they may just have the album of the year on their hands. The future is looking bright for hip hop's hottest producer-rapper duo.

Drake Appears to Respond on Tour and Social Media

On Tour

Judging by Drake's comments during his tour stop just days after "Like That" dropped, Kendrick's verse clearly struck a nerve. Taking the stage in front of a packed crowd, Drake defiantly declared, "There's not a rapper on this planet who could ever mess with me!" While Drizzy didn't call out Kendrick by name, the timing of this boast seems to suggest it was directed at his Compton counterpart.

Vague Instagram Posts

Never one to directly address his opponents, Drake took to posting vague yet pointed messages on Instagram last week. "I would never sell you out just to push my latest work," he wrote. "I would never do you wrong out of the blue, but I'm always down to make things worse." The "you" in these posts remains unnamed, but the references to "selling out" and "latest work" imply these shots are aimed at Future and Metro Boomin. After all, their surprise collab project blocked Drake from scoring his tenth number one album.

A Brewing Feud?

With Kendrick calling out Drake by name and Drake responding in kind (if indirectly), all signs point to a potential feud brewing between these two hip hop heavyweights. Kendrick made it clear he feels Drake's music lacks substance, while Drake's declarations of being untouchable suggest he doesn't consider Kendrick on his level. However, these are mere subliminals at this point. Until direct diss tracks start dropping, there's no way to know if this apparent beef will escalate into an all-out war of words or fizzle out and be forgotten. For now, all eyes are on Drake and Kendrick to see who might fire the next shot.
