HERE'S A LIST OF THE TOP NYC ARTISTS TO WATCH IN 2022
Updated: Dec 6, 2021
2021 was an eventful year in Hip Hop. We got a Drake album, a Kanye Album and even watch the two squash their longtime beef. Breakout stars like B Lovee and Kay Flock put on for the Bronx, NYC, landing a record deal while gaining the attention of millions of fans and industry heavyweights like Meek Mill, G Herbo and A Boogie. Producers like Cash Cobain and Dizzy Banko also had a great year, putting on for beat makers. With 2021, coming to an end, here’s a list of the top NYC artists to look out for in 2022.
B Lovee
B Lovee arguably had the best 2021. Since his start with music in 2020, the Bronx superstar has received co signs from A Boogie, Don Q and more recently Meek Mill, G Herbo and more. His viral hit “My Everything” has taken the world by storm with plenty of streams on DSPs and over TWO YouTube views. B Lovee recently announced that he’ll be releasing a project in 2022. Although this isn’t B Lovee’s first mixtape, this might be the most anticipated. His debut release “Courtlandtbaby-EP” was very different from his recent drops, with more of a melodic trap vibe. B Lovee ensures that this is what his fans are waiting and he won’t let them down. We can’t wait to see what the Bronx superstar cooks up in the New Year.
D Thang
D Thang’s journey as an artist hasn’t been easy but his undeniable talent keeps him in the “top Bronx rappers” conversation. His viral freestyle on Power 105.1’s "On the Radar Radio" with Gabe racked up over a million views, along with hits like “Scene” and “BeatBox freestyle”. Despite being an independent artist, D Thang isn’t letting anything get in the way on his road to the top. Declaring himself as “the reason the whole Bronx litty”, we’re excited to see if D thang is prepared to keep his flame ablaze in the upcoming year.
Wan Billz
Wan Billz’s distinct voice is one of the many reasons the Bronx rapper has been able to captivate his many fans. Many people coinhimas thefirstfrom his side to start rapping. His single “No Ad-libs” gained over a million views and counting, a rare accomplishment in the underground hip hop market. Although Billz is still building his brand, through collaborations with other artists and releasing his own songs, hisBillz recently previewed a new track with B Lovee, which gained over 50,000 views on Youtube.. and its just a snippet! Hopefully, we get that record and more in the New Year.
Bizzy Banks
Since stepping on the scene in 2019, Bizzy has maintained the title of one of the hottest rappers out of NYC. His sophomore project “Same Energy”, released earlier this year, was received well by music lovers and his feature on Pop Smoke’s posthumous album “Faith” stamped what many already knew: Bizzy can’t miss. The Brooklyn rapper even turned up at this year’s Rolling Loud Miami and NYC festivals for thousands of fans. Most recently, Bizzy has been teasing new music on social media, even releasing a few remixes. His "Still Into You" remix gained over a half a million views before being taken down due to copyright issues. It seems that Bizzy’s “quality over quantity” method of releasing music works in his favor as his loyal fan base continues to tune in every time while accumulating new fans too. Hopefully we’ll get an album from him in 2022 but we’ll have to wait and see.
Kay Flock
Kay Flock has managed to become a fan favorite in a matter of months. His smash hit “Bein Honest” earned him a G Herbo co-sign and feature on the remix. From there, Flock began to really accelerate, booking huge performances including this year’s Rolling Loud NYC and Meek Mill’s concert at MSG,, putting his friends on, and collaborating with NYC rap heavyweights Lil TJay and Fivio Foriegn. His debut tape “The DOA tape” was released this past November and features big records like “Is Ya Ready” and “PSA”. His close friendship with fellow Bronx superstar B Lovee has many fans wondering if we’ll get a joint project from them. Maybe a DOA compilation tape featuring Flock’s rap affiliates like Wan Billz, C Blu etc. Despite his recent run in with police, Kay Flock took to social media to ensure fans that he’s focused on dropping new music, flooding his IG feed with snippets. We’ll see what happens next.
Bando
An affiliate of RPT, Bando is the youngest out of D Thang’s camp. Since October the Bronx rapper has been constantly dropping music with his most recent release receiving 200,000 views. With such buzzing talent coming from the RPT camp, like D Thang and female breakout star Nay Dancer, it’s safe to assume that Bando is up next.
Sleepy Hallow
Sleepy Hallow is easily the biggest success stories out of NYC drill. Despite his rap comrade and fellow Winner Circle rapper Sheff G's jail sentence, Sleepy has managed to maintain his reign as the King of Drill. His Rolling Loud festival performances landed him the opportunity to headline his own tour. Not to mention, Sleepy's recent #SpotifyWrrapped numbers, showed that the Brooklyn rapper racked in over 680 MILLION STREAMS from over 37 MILLION LISTENERS. By next year, Sleepy is projected to doube or triple those numbers. With new music on the way, it may be very possible but we'll have to wait to see.
Capella Grey
Capella Grey had the summer on smash with his hit single "Gyalis". The Uptown artist is very active on social media, constantly going live to talk to fans, address haters and preview new music. Capella Grey has already begun to prove himself and why his sound is necessary. As a skilled songwriter, Capella is great at combining his melodic harmony with the street vibes, but in a way that doesn’t alienate the ladies either. “I want everyone to catch the vibe. Grab a shorty, do something,” says the young heartthrob who now has ladies crying when he’s on stage. Currently, Capella is working on his debut Capitol Records project, due early next year.
Lola Brooke
Lola Brooke may be small in size but her unique voice and gangster delivery is unlike none other. Early records like "Shittin Me" and "Options" put her at the forefront of the Brooklyn rap movement. Her single "Don't Play Wit It" featuring Billy B, produced by Dizzy Banko went crazy in the city earning Lola a co-sign from Meek Mill. Her upcoming single "Dummy Ummy" is building up quite a buzz and is set to be released next week. The record may set the tone for what we can expect from Lola in 2022.
